Emmy Award winner Lea DeLaria was the first openly gay comic on television in America, and is an accomplished Jazz performer who has performed in concert venues all over the world. She is best famous as ‘Big Boo’ from “Orange is the New Black” (3 SAG Awards) and recently united the cast of the hit off-Broadway Titanique. Lea can currently be seen in the indie film film Potato Dreams of America, and in the Indigo Girls jukebox feature film, Glitter & Doom. She recently starred in the Off-Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ play, The Late hours of the Iguana, directed by Emily Mann. Beyond whose poached eggs were manifique, one thing is undeniably clear: Brunch is the week’s gayest meal. Straight aficionados would be forgiven for thinking Brunch is a ritual so sacred to gay communities that we might as well have marched for the right to Brunch. Brunch is so gay we even have merch telling you it is.
There’s no such thing as a queer meal — but once you look at food through a queer lense you’ll see it’s actually everywhere.
Queerness has become a practical blanket term for anyone on the LGBTQ spectrum, but it has radical roots in subversion and redefinition of society — including restaurant dining. There’s nothing explicitly queer about Brunch – except that it’s an undeniably gender non-conforming space, even if, like iced coffee, I can’t offer the exact reason. But here’s my best go at it.
History
Long before avocado on toast changed the brunch game, the meal existed. According to First We Feast the entire concept of Brunch can be traced support to the stiff upper lipped upper-class British tradition of “hunting luncheons”. Between
Brunch is for queer people
My mention is Eric Wilkerson. I'm gay, I love meal, I drink wine, I enjoy variety, & I embrace diversity. None of these things define who I am but they all play a part in the effortless layout of my life experiences. I live my animation through experiences and I refer to them as effortless because I enable them happen organically.
My most organic experience happens every Sunday. I call it brunch. Have you heard of it? Webster's dictionary defines brunch as a noun. So if it were to be used in a sentence, this is how the sentence would read: I am looking forward to eating brunch today. The definition reads: A meal that combines breakfast and lunch and that is usually eaten in late morning. While I appreciate Webster's "definition" of brunch, I define brunch as a verb. So if it were to be used in a sentence, this is how the sentence would read: I brunch on Sundays. My definition goes something like this: The action of participating in a stylish event that happens to be the gayest meal of the week.
Why execute gay men love brunch? I feel that I have an answer, but you can let me know what you consider. Gay men are
