Get a rainbow contact companion
As you obtain older it’s not unusual to use more time on your own, particularly if you’ve beaten loved ones or your health isn’t what it used to be.
Following the success of our call companions service, we launched rainbow call companions: a free telephone befriending service for LGBT+ people who are lonely, isolated or in need of companionship and undergo they would profit from a approachable phone call every week or two. This is a service specifically for lesbian, gay, pansexual, transgender plus (LGBT+) people aged 75+ who would like to speak to someone who’s also LGBT+.
Calls last for half an hour or so and you can chat about anything that interests you. What's fantastic is that the same volunteer phones you every period, so you can get to realize each other and share stories and laughter – for as long as you both want.
Rainbow name companions has been awarded by the NHS National Advisor for LGBT Health award (2022), which recognises outstanding operate by individuals and groups across the NHS and VCSE sector to upgrade the experience of LGBT+ patients and the LGBT+ workforce and shine a light on examples of best practice.

Did you know the UK had its own ‘Don’t Tell Gay’ bill?
2023 was the twentieth anniversary of the repeal of section 28 - the much hated legislation which prohibited the ‘promotion of homosexuality… as a pretended family relationship.’ The 15 years during which section 28 was in action had an enormous negative impact on LGBTQIA+ people.
I was in education during this period and, looking endorse, can see the impact this had on me - the silence, the fear, the isolation. I also now see that some people bravely pushed back.
Section 28 banned the ‘promotion of homosexuality’ in English schools for 15 years between 1988 and 2003 with huge impact.
