Charlie crist is gay
Look, I don’t know if Florida Gov.
Charlie Crist is gay. And while it really should be a non-issue because being gay is not this scandalous thing that makes a person unfit for public office enjoy some loonies on the far right believe, the fact is: It matters. It’s an issue because Crist is making it an issue by reiterating his support for a constitutional ban on homosexual couples getting married.
Granted, this isn’t the first moment Crist has said he supports such a thing. Apparently, he mentioned it at some point while running for governor, and governors don’t really possess much power when it comes to the Joined States Constitution. But now he’s running for Senate as an independent. The United States Senate.
On Aug. 29 during an interview on CNN, Ed Henry brought up the issue of same-sex marriage and pointed out that Marco Rubio, one of Crist’s opponents in the Senate race, supports a constitutional ban.
“The former Republican Party Chairman Ken Mehlman came out and said he’s gay and he called on conservatives to compassionate of move to the political center and be more tolerant on this issue,” Henry said. “Now that you’re trying to occupy the political center, are you still in favor o
Charlie Crist speaks out in assist of gay marriage in Florida
Appearing at a campaign fundraiser held at the home of Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Dean Trantalis, who is openly gay, Crist, 57, said that the Democratic Party was growing in Florida because his former party, the Republican Party, has "lost its way."
The Miami Herald's Steve Rothaus asked Crist what he would do as governor to expand LGBT rights.
"One of the most important things we can undertake is get a law on the books in Florida that recognizes the kinds of things that President Obama is talking about. Why not hold marriage equality throughout our country? Certainly, we ought to have it in Florida," Crist answered.
"I believe that, if we win this election on November 4th, and we get some other progressives elected in the Florida Residence and Florida Senate, then we're going to have a great opportunity to get that done. I look forward to the afternoon we do."
In 2008, Crist bac
Florida's bachelor Governor Charlie Crist is getting married, and to a woman, too. That's how poorly he wants to be vice president. I hope John McCain is happy now.
I pray Crist isn't making a mistake by trying too hard. Men don't want anything they can get too easy. On the other hand, men lose interest quickly.
Of course, the human heart is curved like a route through the mountains, so what do I know? Maybe it's love. And maybe it's just a joyous coincidence that Crist has found it at exactly the same time that McCain is looking for a running mate.
Sometimes things just perform out.
It's like that federal forbid on off shore drilling. When Crist ran for governor in 2006, he supported it. Now John McCain wants it repealed and (weird!) two weeks ago, Crist realized that he did too.
Florida is a swing express -- Haha! Get it? -- and Crist has a popularity rating of something like 70%. He also gets a lot of the credit for delivering the state to McCain in the primaries. There's only one nagging thing keeping him from being the obvious choice for the vice presidency: He comes off kinda gay.
But then, suddenly last Thursday, after thirty years of the single life, Crist dis
Former Gov. Charlie Crist: Gay marriage stance was political
Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is not the latest politician to move in favor of gay marriage, but he's the latest to accept that his unique stance had more to do with his political persuasion.
Crist, running as a Democrat for the Florida governorship, admitted this week in the LGBT publication "Watermark" that his original stance against gay marriage was purely political.
Crist posted a link to the interview on his Facebook page.
Crist said he was being a "good Republican," and begged forgiveness.
Crist, a former Republican, left the party in 2006 during his campaign for U.S. senator, and ran as an independent. Last year he registered as a Democrat and announced his jog to take advocate the governor's mansion.
But many question whether this latest position change has more to do with politics than with genuine feeling.
"This isn't the first issue position Charlie Crist has changed and probably isn't the last position he'll change," said Nathan Gonzalez with The Rothenberg Political Report. "This is just the process that you contain to undergo when you switch from a Republican t
