Ben and Jerry, From Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, are Not a Couple

Myth: Ben and Jerry, from Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, are a couple. In fact, Jerry was dating his eventual wife when Ben and Jerry were roommates. He also left the organization for a few years to help his future wife, Elizabeth, pursue her Ph.D. in psychology. The rumor that Ben and Jerry are gay received a huge boost when Ben & Jerry’s came out with the “Hubby Hubby” flavor for one month, which featured two men getting married on the cover and was in support of same-sex attracted marriage rights. “Hubby Hubby” was just a rebranded version of the famous flavor “Chubby Hubby”, which is a vanilla malt swirled with chocolate and peanut butter and includes the chocolate covered, peanut butter filled pretzels.

Mixing politics with business "is always fraught with peril," said Dan Mitchell in The Big Money, but "that didn't stop Ben & Jerry's." The ice-cream maker has temporarily changed the call of its Chubby Hubby ice cream flavor to Hubby Hubby in help of the choice to make lgbtq+ marriage legal in the company's house state, Vermont. Predictably, the move was promptly slammed by hordes of "Internet crazies."
Who can criticize them? said James Delingpole in Britain's DailyTelegraph. I don't have anything against gay people, "I'm probably OK" with gay marriage. "But here’s where I draw the line. I do NOT want my freaking ice cream tub to tell me gay marriage is a great and wonderful thing."
Don't stress, said the San Francisco Chronicle. Vermont officially made the jump from gay unions to same-sex attracted marriages this week, but the Ben & Jerry's 30-day switch from Chubby Hubby to Hubby Hubby is "mostly symbolic." And the company won't switch the labels—it would take 18 months to get them to market—so you won't even notice new labels on the tubs in your grocer's freezer.

- Ben and Jerry, with their tendency to mix left wing politics with tasty ice cream, has decided to celebrate the advent of same sex marriage in their native Vermont by renaming their Chubby Hubby ice cream to Hubby Hubby.
According to the Chicago Tribune, "The identify change to "Hubby Hubby" is temporary and, for most of the region, largely symbolic. "Hubby Hubby" ice cream will at
this point only be sold in Vermont through September.
"For those not in the know, Chubby/Hubby Hubby is fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels in vanilla malt ice cream rippled with fudge and peanut butter."
While one finds nothing wrong with equal sex marriage, one wonders what the utility is of having someone else's political cause shoved down ones throat (literally!) It's terrible enough that ice cream, which one likes among the top ten of life's simple pleasures, is also fattening and tends to contribute to type two diabetes. Now one has to be annoyed at ice cream creature politically correct.
Personally, this is the sort of thing that leads
