Former child actor Danny Pintauro has revealed that he is HIV positive.
Pintauro — who played Jonathan on the Tony Danza sitcom Who’s the Boss? — told Oprah Winfrey during Saturday’s episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now? that he was diagnosed with the virus in 2003 but has waited until now to go public with the news.
“I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I wasn’t ready — I’m ready now — that I’m HIV positive, and I contain been for 12 years,” Pintauro, 39, told Winfrey. “It’s just a big deal. It’s not something that people are talking about right now really.”
Pintauro, who came out as gay in 1997, explained that he had been forced out at the time by a tabloid magazine reporter. He said he is now hoping to serve as a role model for those with the virus.
“I missed the opportunity to be a beacon of light for gay kids who were going through what I was going through because I was outed — it wasn’t by choice,” he said.
Pintauro explained that he was initially worr
Danny Pintauro opened up about his HIV diagnosis and battle with meth addiction in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey this past Sunday, but before baring his soul to the American public, the actor had to tell Tony Danza and Judith Light, his former onscreen parents from "Who's The Boss."
The actor told E! News that telling his co-stars from the well-liked '80s sitcom was "hard, just like telling my family was hard," and said Danza vocalized "disappointment." But "Who's The Boss" fans will be relieved to know that the father-son pair are all good, as Pintauro was contacted by Danza days later to issue his well-wishes and support, the actor revealed to HuffPost Live on Friday.
"He actually emailed me because he heard that I had said that [he was disappointed], and he wanted to clarify that he's worried about me more than anything," Pintauro told host Nancy Redd.
The youngster star said he didn't fault Danza's original reaction, however.
"The disappointment is a given. I know that's going to happen. It's fatherly disappointment, to all of a sudden uncover out your child has a drug problem that you didn't know about -- that's disappointing," he admitted.
Watch more f I don't know if Danza is bi or secretly lgbtq+ but I execute remember when slammed Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche. This was when Clinton was still in office. Danza (a Republican) and his wife and DeGeneres and Heche were at some kind of White House party/reception thingy. Danza complained to a reported that DeGeneres and Heche were all over each other the entire time, even when they were talking with President Clinton. Just basically openly kissing, cuddling and slobbering on other. The reporter replied that DeGeneres and Heche were a couple who are in love and were showing fondness to each other. Danza replied, "So? I was there with my wife. My wife and I love each other and we didn't stand there making out in front of the President." I got the feeling Danza thought that DeGeneres felt she some special right to act that way because of her gay-ness. (This was DeGeneres had her big, ratings and fame-generating "coming out" episode.) When asked to respond to Danza's comments DeGeneres' publicist said, "Ellen is really feeling attacked from all sides right now." (Oh sweet victimhood!!) I kind of mind Danza had a point.
Any truth that Tony Danza was/is bi?
