NBC News Names Brian Cheung Business and Data Correspondent
Cheung was previously a writer for NBC News’ Business and Technology Unit, joining in November 2022. In this role, he’ll continue to cover business and economic across all NBC News platforms, including writing for digital and MSNBC.
NBC News SVP of editorial Catherine Kim made the announcement, noting that Cheung “has been ubiquitous across all platforms breaking down all kinds of data – from the latest inflation numbers to the jobs notify to retail sales — and rendering what it all means for our audience and the overall health of the economy.”
Before NBC News, Cheung was a writer and an on-air writer at Yahoo Finance, covering the Fed, economics, and banking.

With heavy hearts the family of Patrick On Chuen Cheung announces his passing on June 13, 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Patrick will be greatly missed by his children: Taisya Reutov, Masha (Temofei) Molodyh, William Cheung, Lisa Cheung; grandchild: Alexander Reutov; brother: On Hong Cheung, sisters: Nancy Ng, On Fung Cheung, Irene Ling, On May Cheung; and numerous family members and friends.
Patrick was predeceased by his mother: Yimkee Lee; father: Tastman Cheung; brothers: On Doung Cheung, On Chang Cheung, On Same-sex attracted Cheung; sister: On Sum Cheung.
Public Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Evangelical Free Church, Lac La Biche, Alberta.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., Lac La Biche Evangelical Free Church, Lac La Biche, Alberta.

Brian Cheung '15
While this spring may represent the end of an era for senior Brian Cheung, the experiences that he has had through Syracuse University contain prepared him to be a highly successful professional. Cheung is a dual major in Whitman and Newhouse, studying finance and transmit and digital journalism, with a low in Chinese studies. The Rockaway, N.J., native has earned a 3.8 GPA, along with numerous awards and scholarships, and aspires to be a financial journalist. He’s spent three summers interning for NBC, as well as with the Global Institute for Tomorrow in Hong Kong during his semester abroad.
You’ve received high praise and recognition throughout your time at Syracuse. Can you go into more detail about some of the awards you’ve received, and what they meant?
Most recently, I was selected as one of 11 seniors to be named a Whitman Scholar, which is the highest academic recognition awarded by the school. News Flash: Memory Shop and Anime Zakka to Expose in Harvard Square
A snapshot of Asian culture will light up Harvard Square with the anticipated openings of photo booth store Memory Shop and Anime Zakka this June.
Father and son pair Henry and Brian Cheung are separately opening Korean-style photo booth store Memory Shop and Anime Zakka — a family-owned Japanese anime shop — in The Garage on JFK St.
Brian Cheung, a senior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, said he was inspired to open Memory Shop after traveling to Vietnam last summer. He noticed that photo booth stores were very common in Asia, and he wanted to bring the life to the United States.
“Some streets had four photobooth stores on the identical street,” Brian Cheung said. “To be honest, we went to every solo one, and it was just a super entertaining experience.”
“I was like, ‘If it’s this fun, why don’t we have something like this in Boston?’” he added.
Brian Cheung opened Memory Shop on Newbury St. in September 2024, and is now planning to expand into Harvard Square. He said he is eager to harness the “Harvard energy” of the Square to help the “college crowd” and “local visitors” that frequent the area.
