Apple has rolled support an AI tool after it wrongly claimed former professional tennis player Rafael Nadal had reach out as lgbtq+ in an update of summarised news stories.

“Brazilian tennis player, Rafael Nadal, comes out as gay” read the press notification published earlier this month, and captured and recently reported on by The Telegraph.

Nadal, who was born in Manacor on the island of Mallorca, Spain, is married to Mery Perelló, with whom he is a parent to an infant son, Rafael.

According to the newspaper, the alert also told a number of iPhone users that the BBChad reported that Luke Littler was the winner of the PDC World Darts Championship final before it had commenced.

These are among a slew of inaccuracies that have reportedly plagued the tech gigantic since a recent update.

Apple Intelligence’s notification summary feature continues to face scrutiny and criticism after a slew of glaring errors including on Luke Littler and Rafael Nadal, were highlighted in multiple recent reports.

The artificial intelligence-powered film has been criticised for headline errors, inaccurate summaries, and outlandish information. In the most recent example, before English darts player Luke Littler had even participated in the PDC World Championship final, an Apple Intelligence-powered summary erroneously stated that he had won, according to reports. Some users were reportedly also misinformed by another AI summary that acclaimed tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.

Apple had released the AI summary feature as part of iOS 18.2, aiming to give users a concise synopsis of notifications rather than the entire content. The feature, which is in beta, intends to boost user experience.

A news summary from Apple falsely claimed darts player Luke Littler had won the PDC World Championship - before he even played in the final.

The incorrect summary was written by man-made intelligence (AI) and is based on a BBC story about Littler winning the tournament semi-final on Thursday night.

Within hours on Friday, another AI notification summary falsely told some BBC Sport app users that Tennis amazing Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.

Apple, which has been contacted for a response, previously declined to comment on similar examples of false AI alerts about news stories.

Apple's AI software Apple Intelligence launched in the UK in December 2024 with a feature that aims to give users a simple round-up of app alerts they hold missed.

It collates the alerts into a single message and then uses AI to summarise what they contained.

The false alert about Littler was seen by users of the BBC News app earlier in the day.

The incorrect summary was written by the Apple Intelligence tool which was introduced in the UK in December 2024. This software features a tool crafted to provide users with a concise summary of missed app notifications. It can compile the alerts into a single notification and employs AI to summarize their content.

The incorrect summary about Nadal was reportedly based on a story about Brazilian tennis player Silva's openness about his sexuality. Meanwhile, the other story was also based on a story about Littler's victory in the darts tournament’s semi-final. The report also distributed screenshots of the incorrect AI summary.
